The Weight of Air BY KAROLINA SZYMANOWSKA

“The flag – because I’ve always associated it with air and it is a traditional symbol of power, sovereignty and control. The human – because it is about issues that are both the causes and consequences of aur (human) hegemony in the world. This is why the human depicted in this work is striving for self-improvement and overcoming his weaknesses. Despite his gigantic (superhuman?) effort, he demonstrates his power.
I put the flag on wheels because I wanted a rover, with all the meanings it carries (e.g. the space race between the USSR and the USA, regard/ess of cost), but a/so because of the sci-ft references. I wanted the flag to convey something of the context of travel, exploration, conquering new war/ds, but a/so that American kind of thinking in terms of “the sky is the limit.” At the same time, however, this “poor rover” of mine (which a/so triggers association with a small trailer), enc/osed and cut off from the world, has a kind of impasse about it and basically seems to be the resu/t of rumination. Like this poor water tower, which has stood here for 120 years, a survivor unscathed by the war, and yet it is … redundant. Not because it has broken down, but because while it’s been standing here, the world has moved on. And that was basically the starting point for me. I wanted to talk about this very human need to reach”

AIR RESERVOIR: A DYSTOPIAN POEM BY BEATE POIKANE
At the visit to Air Reservoir, a sanctuary for aerial beings – lies a testament to our times. You are invited to put on the external lungs and depart in a a place where the air itself carries the weight of a slow catastrophe.
In this landscape powered by the possibilities of worlding explores the differences and similarities between the human breathing system and that of birds, insects, snails. A performative respiratory ecosystem is formed in the mutation of human made- remains and aerial beings. As you move through this space, you become a witness to delicate death dance of human intervention. There you encounter a more distributed lung structure with air sacs that has a function in maintaining a balanced flight for birds, who breathe two times faster and snails whose lungs stretch upwards into the depth of a shell. These dynamics of contrast are explored, while being challenged with the human-bodied limitations in perceiving air.

SALUTI E BACI By Daniele Catalli
The branch issued personalised postcards on demand. Travellers approached the counter, requested a destination (anywhere in the world) and received a hand-drawn postcard, together with a boarding pass detailing the date, time, ticket number, and real-time air quality index of their chosen destination.

The Weight of Air is the first physical installation of Saluti e Baci.
A wooden pop-up booth, built from recycled and upcycled materials, painted with black ink produced from actual pollution emissions.

Het Gewicht van Lucht BY TABOR IDEMA
For many residents of IJmuiden, the Tata Steel plant is their workplace, their home, and their history. Although the polluted air from the plant is a major problem for many people, a group of IJmuiden residents affectionately refer to it as “Our Air.”

Like a Sponge. On Mountain Forests and Water Retention is a guidebook that blends field exploration, ecological activism, and artistic sensitivity. It leads through the mountain valleys, peat bogs, and streams of southern Poland, showing how nature—especially old forests—acts like a sponge: retaining water, preventing drought, and mitigating the effects of floods.
The guide is intended for all nature lovers, regardless of age.
Inside, you’ll find:
• six hiking routes following water, sphagnum moss, beavers, and forests,
• personal stories, field observations, and reflections by the authors,
• accessible and engaging ecological knowledge,
• suggested mindfulness practices and ways to connect with nature,
• inspiration for action to protect the environment—with care, respect, and grounding.
It’s an invitation to see the forest and water differently—through experience, the senses, and relationship.

Ummis and Lobelia BY Evarts Melnalksnis
The Lobelia dortmanna, which is listed in the Red Book, requires extremely clean growing conditions. It has chosen Lake Ummis, surrounded by coastal forests, as its home, which is the clearest body of water in Latvia.
The Lobelia dortmanna, which is listed in the Red Book, requires extremely clean growing conditions. It has chosen Lake Ummis, surrounded by coastal forests, as its home, which is the clearest body of water in Latvia. To keep it clean, swimming is strictly prohibited in the lake during the summer.
The experimental contemporary music theater performance ‘Ummis and Lobelia’ is a poetic tribute to the unequal opposition between the autonomy of nature and the pressure of civilization. It also explores the reflection of human psychological states in processes of nature. Liminal situations that force us to peer into the abyss of consciousness. And hope, which, like the fragile lobelia flower, sometimes emerges and rises above the dark depths of consciousness.

WE ARE SAND GRAINS BY BORIS CHIMP 504
The barrier islands of Ria Formosa are made up of very dynamic and fragile sandy systems. Under ideal conditions, this dune ecosystem should be able to move, but there are families who have built houses and lived there for generations, making it impossible to do so. Some say that one day the sea will take everything away.

Under ideal conditions, this dune ecosystem should be able to move, but there are families who have built houses and lived there for generations, making it impossible to do so. Some say that one day the sea will take everything away. But these people know no other home. Their attachment to their land, their experiences and their memories is stronger than any rational, scientific or governmental explanation. Like the land they walk on, they are just sand grains, waiting for the waves to wash them away.
