New forms of artistic creations around ecology and climate for the wider stakeholders (especially artists)
Summary
The inspiration for the WP comes from the various research, reading and experience of the project partnership. Collectief Walden designed six artistic themes for the four years, related to the four overarching themes of AIR-SOIL-WATER-ECOSYSTEM:
- Wind still life (AIR): The new creation led by CW is a site-specific performance, adopting to the landscapes and focusing on the meaning of time, following the Deep-Time Humility concept, as the relationship of humankind to the cosmic history and the relativity of time.
- OIL (SOIL): inviting five artists to focus on the relevance of the greed of humanity as main motivation for nature destruction. The artists are receiving the ‘OIL set’ (50l oil, 50l soil, 50kgs of ice) and they can create in their local environment
- KUUB (SOIL): Similarly, to OIL five artists are invited to focus on the concept of seventh generation principle (as we put the benefit of the seventh generation in focus for decision-making, common in many indigenous communities, seventh generation is where it is hard to feel the direct, personal link anymore as we usually know our grand grandparents at least from stories and still can imagine our grand grandchildren)
- Born by the river (WATER): A unique twin-piece, created at the two most important river deltas in Europe, at the Danube and at the Rhein, focusing on the impact of climate change on the local communities by artistic interpretation of local stories, taking the inspiration from the book of Elizabeth Rush, Rising.
- NAU (spin-off): NAU takes on the concept of cathedral thinking, as a medieval builder got engaged in the works of a new cathedral with knowing, he will do it in his entire life and he will not see the final results. NAU is a spin-off from the three projects above and experiments with new methods in artistic creations with the same involved artists.
- In the last year, as the project is also focus out with the topic of ECOSYSTEM we invite one-one artists from the OIL and the KUUB project for a residency program, where based on the outcomes of the last years, they create artworks reflecting the wider ecosystem.
The artistic projects are well-documented throughout the four years and at the end of the project a toolbox is created with the experiences, practices we used to work in collaboration with nature, inspired by the changing ecosystem around us. The toolbox will be disseminated among creators to foster further artistic productions around the natural environment, the impact of humanity on it and how it influences local communities.
